Summer Break

[Rio was sitting on a bench, close to a park, and sighed heavily. The heat was so strong. No wonder that some sweat ran down her face. She laid her head back and looked up into the sky, covering her eyes with her right arm soon after. It was a bad idea to do that, when the sun is right above her.]

It's so hot. I really would like to go to a beach or eat some ice cream now.

[IV was coming around the corner when he heard a familiar voice. Catching the tail end of the speech, at a second glance he saw the face to whom the voice belonged and, with a faint smirk, approached. Before the bench, he perched a hand on his hip as he looked down, appraising Rio.]

You know, the ice cream man just passed by earlier.

[icequeenrio]

[Rio took her hand off her face as she heard a familiar voice talk to her. She looked at said person and her eyes widened in surprise.]

IV?? What are you doing here? And wait. What did you say? Please tell me this is a bad joke of yours.

[She really hoped, that he was making a joke. It would suck, if she missed the ice cream man.]

[rebelia]

Why would I joke about something like that? I saw him when I was rounding the corner. If you run, you might catch him.

[That is, if she were willing to dash about in this heat. He gestured with a sloppy wave over his shoulder, indicating the general direction.]

[She looked at him for a moment before she closed her eyes and tilted her head a little downwards.]

You know, I'd actually prefer going to a ice cream shop instead of running after a ice cream man, which only would make me sweat more. So, no thanks.

Heh, so you'd rather walk all that distance for the shop. Well, I suppose it's preferable to sweating more.

[Lifting his head, IV glanced off to the left and then the right.]

Where's Ryouga?

[Rio looked at him for a moment, not saying a single word. It felt a bit weird to suddenly have a talk with him.]

Ryouga is having a small tournament with some of our friends from school. I really can't understand, how he can do that when it's so hot. The last time we did that on the beach. But there you wear less clothes than here.

Oh? So that's what he's doing. The heat doesn't seem to bother him, but it looks like the same can't be said for you.

[To be honest, IV was also starting to feel the mugginess of the weather. He shifted his weight onto his other leg, watching Rio.]

. . . Come on. You're hot, aren't you? Let's get out of here and go somewhere cooler.

You know, you're actually right. Let's go somewhere else.

[She stood up from the bench and placed her pointerfinger on her chin in a thoughtful way.]

But where could we go? What do you think of going to a pool party or something like that?

[rebelia]

Why, were you invited to one?

[If there was a party at the poolside, he certainly hadn't been invited. They couldn't well barge into one hosted by a stranger, either. Although, come to think of it, he recalled there being a sizable pool at his hotel.]

I was thinking about the ice cream shop a few blocks down. You can handle the distance, right?

Well, yes, there is one. I even have a invitation to it. But I didn't want to go there all by myself. But I think, you don't have a invitation, if you ask me this kind of a question.

[She thought about his offer for a moment and then gave him a friendly smile as she winked at him.]

Sure, let's go there. And if I can't handle the distance, then you could carry me to the shop~

[She could always bring her brother with her, he thought. On the surface, IV quirked a challenging eyebrow as he took the pass in stride.]

The shop isn't that far away. I'm sure you can handle it. Or has the heat affected you that badly?

[icequeenrio]

Well, who knows? I've been outside for quite some time now. And the heat surely is bad. But it's up to you, if you'll carry me or not.

[She went a few steps ahead before she turned around to him again with a smile.]

So, which is the ice cream shop you were talking about?

[rebelia]

So it's my choice, huh.

[Shaking his head, IV stepped up to join Rio at her side.]

It's the one a few blocks down. There's another shop in the opposite direction, but it's crowded. You want to be able to sit down, right?

[icequeenrio]

[Her eyes followed him as he got closer.]

I think, I know which shop you mean. And, yes, I indeed would prefer to sit. It's much more relaxing.
